Wasted Stars
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Many a star shines so bright
Then burn out,
leaving a trail in the night sky
We celebrated the gift,
but the vessel became wasted
All we have left
are memories and ruminations
of what could have been
If only their souls found healing
Rest in peace
Stars in the night sky
After people die, we are left with memories and ruminations to remember them by as their legacy for the time spent on earth.
Grieving gracefully will allow us to recognise the finality of death to the physical presence and the opportunity to remember their legacy as enduring beyond them in all their work and impact in the lives of those left behind here on earth.
Many famous personalities develop their talents to such high levels in an attempt to overcome/mask/compensate for the pain of their childhood that never healed. It is then not uncommon for them to develop a substance abuse issue to mask their pain, which then eventually results in their death.
We celebrate and enjoy their gifts and often fantasise about attaining their level of fame and fortune, but would we also want to live with their pain?
There is a lesson for us to appreciate the mundaneness of our lives and prioritise enjoyment in contentment.
What legacy will you leave behind through your relationships?
Rest in peace
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Peace not the preserve
Of those no longer present
Steadfast peace
the enduring foundation
Often overshadowed
By emotional weeds
Don't let being six feet deep
Be your only hope
Of resting in Peace
Don't wait for death to experience peace; enjoy the peace available here now.
People refer to the dead as resting in peace to symbolise the fact that whatever things may have troubled them in life have now ceased and made way for them to experience peace and an eternal experience for their enduring essence.
For the living, peace is our default state outside of mind-created drama. That is why when we fall out of thinking, we experience calm and peace, and then the mind catches wind of it and starts to agitate again.
Unfortunately, most of us never get to see this, as the same mind that creates the drama starts to cover its tracks by representing something outside yourself as the source of the drama and not itself. If that were true, then you would only have one experience of the same set of circumstances rather than a whole array of experiences from the same set of circumstances.
If we accept peace as our default state, then we can detect when we are no longer experiencing it to recognise what the mind is fixating on that has taken us out of that state and re-centre ourselves to once again experience peace. We can let go of its stories and see ourselves as safe in our truest essence and rest again.
What has been getting in the way of your experiencing your innate peace?
