Know Thyself
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
True wisdom begins
With knowing thyself
So Socrates said
Much easier to say
Than it is to do
We would rather
Scales the highest peak
Or sail the seven seas
Than take that
Journey within
So you want to
Save the world?
You want to
Discover
What makes
Others tick?
You are the
Only portal
Of discovery
You have
Discover yourself
Other will unfold
Before your eyes
Experience your
Pain
Others will
Feels safe to hurt
In your presence
Embrace your
Humanity
With love and
Kindness
Humanity
Will seek your
Embrace
And experience
Love and kindness
What you seek
Begins in you
Stop hiding from
Yourself
Afraid of what
You may find
Delay no longer
Infinite Love awaits
There is an invitation to discover that we are more than we or others think, much more
The journey within is the most valuable one as it is the route to making peace with who we are and recognising that the answers are within us.
Looking within opens the door to inner transformation which transforms your relationships rather than projecting them onto others
When we look deep within to the essence of who we are, we will find out we are love and that is the perfect antidote to fear
There is nothing you can do out there that will make you enough, the journey within will unveil that you are already enough
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
How does it feel to be with yourself and reflect?
Never The Twain
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Can't have one without the other
One sets up the stage the other inhabits
Writing the script in which the other suffers
Imposing and persistent they may seem
Treat them both with the suspicion they deserve
These imposters were hewn from the same womb
Held in place by your very own thoughts
Set one, See the other
Once the suffering begins, query the other
Bedfellows of the Siamese kind
Never the twain shall separate
Introducing expectations and disappointment
There is a relationship between your thoughts and your body where they feed off each other. The body can often fire off signals for you to consider the pressure that you are experiencing because you have become caught in other people's expectations
Expectations are powerless until we internalise them and take them at face value as what we are to live by and be judged by
When you create the space to be centred in your awareness you can recognise where the expectations are coming from and whether it serves you to take them on or let them go.
You do have the choice to hand them back with some helpful guidance and let things resolve on their own
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
How do you deal with expectations that are no longer serving you?
Predictable
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
The details
Of the future
Are predictably
Unpredictable
Just don't tell
The mind
It's invested
In its own
Illusion
Misdirection
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Want to see some magic?
How to hide
The greatest treasure
In plain sight
Not as hard as you may think
Confusing lack of experience
With nonexistence
Convince your subject
What they seek
Lies much further out
The harder they search
The certain guarantee
The further away they get
From that which they seek
Misdirected from the reality
Sitting right under their noses
Obscured by the veil of confusion
Then comes that which awakens
To the experience of
Their innate essence
Present and complete
Concluding on our capability without trying something is premature.
Expecting ourselves to be great at what we are new to is also not helpful.
Recognise the possibility of all things as a first place to start and from there you can experience unconscious competence in it
If we lack the experience of something, within is the first place to look and not out there
We are conditioned to gain affirmation from external achievements and what we consider failure is the other side of the coin.
If achieving something out there makes us enough and puts us on a high, then failing to do so will suggest that we are not enough and take us on a downward emotional spiral
If we did things because we are already enough then we have a more stable emotional platform to create from. We would do more and enjoy the journey and the outcomes just as much
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
Where are you seeking evidence that you are enough?
Misdirection
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
A person is what you experience
Is it who you are?
Figment of a self-imagined effigy
Illusions of I, a single self
Parading in many guises
Your body unaware of its true self
The journey is illusory
Welcome home to what is real
The awareness that sees it all
The mind portrays the illusion of a single fixed self while manifesting different versions of that self in different contexts
The invitation is to recognise that you are none of those explicitly but the one who is aware of those multifaceted projections of the mind
The body can through feelings highlight incongruences of the mind and reflect deeper-held beliefs and desires that are more consistent with what is really at play
Over-identifying with facets of our identity to which we have attached our sense of self-worth could result in failed health outcomes and in some cases fatal consequences when things do not go as expected.
Over-investing in protecting a certain version of your identity can be very draining over a period of time and could have serious mental and physical health consequences
Depression is a circuit breaker that is calling you to pay attention to your current way of being and adjust to gain a perspective from the place of awareness so you can make changes
Taking things personally and a reflection of your self-worth can lead you to take decisions that terminate any other possibility in this body of yours
Making SPACE to sit in your true essence of awareness provides the opportunity to access many more possibilities
Sitting in the SPACE of awareness that transcends body and mind opens up infinite possibilities for embracing life fully
This allows you flexibility in trying different things and evaluating what is working and what is not and adjusting accordingly with minimal emotional suffering
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
What have you noticed about the many versions of yourself that show based on your current context?
