Blame
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Find me, somebody to blame
Find me, somebody to blame
Can anybody find me
Somebody to blame!
In here, it's getting too hot
Blame, my escape of choice
Rejecting in you
What I have already
Rejected in me
Plastering over
Those tender spots
At least that way
I can feel better, for now
Being better, can wait
For another day
When I'm ready
To embrace
Every part of me
We may shame others through blame to deflect what we perceive to be our own failings
Hiding of the self - Afraid to face what's in the room, using denial to avoid having to own and deal with what we are experiencing as discomfort.
The mind wants to project to release the pressure of any present discomfort.
The gift is to become aware and sit with it, let it dissipate and try and understand what stories we have made up about what happened that made it uncomfortable for us to take responsibility for what is
Owning what is happening for you will allow you to make space for others to be the same
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
What blame have you been projecting onto others and what would owning it open up for you?
Rabbit Hole
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Aligning Past, present and future self
Making peace with their shadow cast
You are the only standard
For measuring what you should be
Everyone else is a rabbit hole
Don't follow Alice down there
Trust yourself - All you need is within you
Comparison and copying others seem inviting options if you are not grounded in the meaning of your true self
We can be inspired by others and celebrate their success with them without having the sense that you need to copy them to be successful yourself
You step out of the essence of who you are and dilute the energy by which you are to attract your own tribe when you start comparing yourself to others
Knowing that you are unique by design frees you up to stop comparing yourself with others and walk your own path.
The pressure of trying to be what you are not called to is lifted when you step into your own uniqueness
Work on understanding what you stand for. Are you a means to an end or being meaning itself?
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
Where do you find yourself comparing yourself to others to establish your worth?
Resistance
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Resistance is futile
To resist is to engage
To engage is to exchange
Fuelling the energy
By which it persists
It is here for its reason
Let it have its season
Glean all its lessons
Then let it be
That it too shall pass
We could resist what is good for us because we are uncomfortable or resist because we believe that it is not helpful for us.
Resisting something you don't want focuses your subconscious on manifesting it as it does not recognise the logic of not wanting it.
Better to transcend (ascend) it by focusing on what you want instead.
Learn from what is there that you don't want, why don't you want it and what do you want instead, then focus on that.
You could spend time and energy resisting or arguing about being in the basement or just ascend to the balcony instead.
Embrace uncertainty, look for opportunities in the unknown, spend time with yourself and let peace move through you.
There is power in truths that meet you when and where you need them the most
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
What can you learn from what you are currently resisting?
Fancy Prediction
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
Equating predictability as safety
Presuming to predict the future
Based on unreliable past data
Up against a universe
Intent on displaying
Its full splendour
Full of all possibility
Never rendering
Any two moments the same
Ego persists in its illusion
It can predict its Next move
The mind keeps carrying on the charade that it can predict the future and covers up its poor track record.
The mind cannot predict the future as there are too many factors it does not control that come into play.
The one-sided story of the mind is that it can use past data to predict the future and help you make decisions that would help keep you safe by flagging and encouraging you to avoid uncertainty.
The context of the past is different so would not necessarily be reliable for predicting the future.
The past does not equal the future. You never step in the same river twice.
It is not helpful to compare what is, to what was but instead be open to new possibilities of what could be.
Strip away the clouds of what-ifs to see the sun of new possibilities
The grass is always greener on the other side because we have a story about what we have not being green enough, so we push our experience of the sun into the future only to repeat the process once we get to the grass we said would be greener in the first instance.
We would not exchange $10,000,000 for the privilege of seeing another day, let's celebrate being alive like it's worth that much to us.
Gratitude is a great leveller and perspective shifter for appreciating all that is here to serve us in the present moment.
Make peace with the ground zero of reality, accept what is and then in the present moment choose the most helpful way to relate to it, with gratitude, humility and willingness to learn and grow.
Whatever feelings we desire exists within us if we drop out of the story that says we need events outside of us to occur for us to experience them, we have a more direct path to doing so.
Let me know what comes up for you when you reflect on the poem.
What can you learn from what you are currently resisting?
