Abyss

Abyss

By Frank Bolaji Irawo

Walking across the abyss

A bottomless pit with no end

No amount of anything could fill it

Not money, accolades or fame

Could satiate its wanton appetite

For many a years

Many better than me have tried

No telling how much of everything

They have poured into it

This truly is a bottomless pit

Exhausted from searching and wondering

Eyes wide open to see as it is

There was no pit, but that of my own making

To know that in the moment of my waking

Contentment made solid ground for my feet
