Child At The Wheel

Child At The Wheel

By Frank Bolaji Irawo

The pressure is on

Blindsided by the unexpected

Out of control

Oncoming traffic out of nowhere

Struggling to apply the brakes

To stop from veering off course

What a crash, what’s the cost?

Contents splurged all across the path

Who in their right mind

Puts a child at the wheel?

Experienced they may be

Driving in the back garden

Back to the present

Counting the cost

Get that child safely

Back where it belongs

Out here on the roads

Cool heads and calm hands prevail

So the child can return to play

Safe in the knowledge

There is an adult at the wheel
