Game Play
By Frank Bolaji Irawo
What a versatile cast
Each one every part can play
In an ever-evolving plot
Co-written by all to suite their taste
The subject matter may change
But the relationships remain the same
Any play worth its salt needs a villain of the piece
Making life unbearable for their "powerless" victim
So drawn like a moth to the flame
Whose “cries” for help
Are music to the ears of an eager Superhero
Soon in full flight
Cape blowing in the wind
An impressive silhouette cut in the midnight sky
Swooping in, just in the nick of time
To give the villain what for
And make the Victim safe again
Completing this intricate Triangle
The game needs to persist
Great place for an intermission
While they draw a breath
To their audience each turns to address
Whose lines are these?
By now you can guess
Why am I always being picked on?
Why am I always having to save the day?
Why am I always the one being given a bad name?
You may be forgiven for thinking they want "out"
The "payoff" too addictive as we cheer them on
Time to swap places and start from the top
So, the run goes on and on
An erstwhile victim is all it takes
And the charade would soon be no more
Till another co-conspirator is found
