Here And Now

Here And Now

By Frank Bolaji Irawo

Once upon a time

There was yesterday

And sometime if ever after

There will be tomorrow

Then there is that ever-present bridge

Right here, in the here and now

To mind comes the stories often told

Sinking in the sea of endless regrets

Wishing for the gift to turn back time

To have it all to do over again

For the chance of better choices to be made

All for a different here and now

Living in never-ending hope

For a future so much brighter than this

In wistful expectation of when that boat comes in

When the "perfect life" checklist is complete

To usher in that happily ever after

Salvation from the reality of this here and now

Yesterday living vicariously on borrowed time

In the power of ever fading memories

Tomorrow a figment of vivid imaginations

Rarely delivering on the hype it builds

Renting space in advance of its time

Today laid waste to the sands of time

Never fully experiencing the here and now

Yesterday a testament to the previous here and now

Tomorrow a witness to the story that will be told

When the final bell tolls, shall its testimony attest

That every moment was experienced as it arrived

Embracing the good, the bad, and the ugly

In service of shaping a wonderful here and now

The stuff of which a wonderful life is made
