Mistaken Identity

Mistaken Identity

By Frank Bolaji Irawo

Helpless born

Flesh and bones

Identified by

My colour of skin

The heights I reach

Handspan increase

Shoes no longer fit

Bushy hair gone astray

Not before it morphed

From black to Gray

Slowly Reborn

Cell by cell

Every ten years

Weight that piles on

And perchance may fall

Eventually all this

Will falter and stall

I the one constant

Through it all
