Someone I used To Know

Someone I used To Know

By Frank Bolaji Irawo

There may just be some pulse left

Features barely recognisable

Emaciated from years of neglect

Stuck in the corner with no attention

Atrophied from years of no stimulation

What a crime to humanity

One once so full of life

Until life itself got in the way

Deflated and left in quiet desperation

Drained of energy for yet another recuperation

Dying embers of a once bright spark

Barely visible from years of deprivation

The world denied the verve and creativity

The fun, joy and laughter

That was such a revelation

In the interest of humanity

Some food, some air and exercise of the brain

Maybe just then

It may just breathe again

Live again

Skip again

Laugh again

Fill the room again

Some semblance to the one I used to know
